Hissa Al-Sulaiti an interdisciplinary Qatari artist based in Doha. I live in an Islamic country where my religion and spirituality are reflected in my art practice. The human figure and anatomy have always been an interesting subject to me. I find the structure of the skull, bones, and the human body to be expressive and meaningful. Some of my interests come from my own thoughts about death and life that connect to my personal experiences. Most of my work revolves around death, morality and creation that is inspired by my faith. The way I approach my work is by self-reflecting and identifying what triggers my emotions. I am currently working towards relating the humanitarian crisis and poverty of the children in Yemen to my theme about death. I approach my art by using surrealism as my style of painting and using a monochromatic palette. I’m in the process of getting my BFA in Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth university and a degree in Art History.
