The premise of this thesis is an exploration of the mind and self, through the methods of character development and story-telling. The narrative considers visuals and symbolic signs, as a means to unfold the world of complicated emotions and internal struggles. It explores the details of illustration and typography while working alongside a fictitious environment, in a story told through the eyes of a fantastical escapist. She wishes to exist beyond the dread of routine life, and her wish was granted but at the cost of losing herself within a realm that only pulls her further in.
Lucine serves as a deconstruction of a personal experience with being an imaginative individual who thrives inside her own mind. These thoughts exist in an inner world that becomes a whimsical reflection of reality. In this idealized world, a particular shade of blue is prevalent. The semantics within the colour explore its significance with the blue hour; a tranquil time that is neither night nor day. Still, quiet and liminal- it is a space filled with grief and emptiness. Yet, strangely it is also peace and comfort.
It is in that stillness that Lucine was born. She tells the story of a girl who wanders through the vast expanses of her inner mind; navigating her darkest points and facing her emotional hurdles… In hopes of finding the light and the strength to return home.
