Through this thesis, I aim to design a retreat of all the things that made me feel safe in this world and discover meaning, and connect values from personal memories. My projects involved re-enactment images of major moments in Qatar culture from my childhood. 2D visuals posters to evoke nostalgia in individuals and to take the audience back in time to their childhood memories. and a short film.
Growing up with older siblings made me feel I belong to a past that is beyond my time, a time when human interactions and connections within the community were more valued. Being connected through them and the wider community to the rich visual culture of the 80s and 90s, my nostalgia is built on memories connected to a community bigger than myself alone—yet feel so personal at the same time.
In my thesis, I try to revive such memories and feelings. I revisit the past through my own nostalgia as a means to explore aesthetics and values. My thesis consists of a series of visual explorations that aim to dissect specific childhood memories and recreate the feelings and emotional comfort that come alongside them.
