Rituals of Gathering: Memories of My Grandmother’s Kitchen

This BFA thesis highlights the stories, conversations, behaviors, and rituals associated with cooking and sharing a meal and aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia capturing the essence of what it means to grow up in Qatar. Creating a serving plate from clay aims to reflect on the fragility of memories and ensures that they are not lost, but are preserved for future generations. Gathering around the serving plate, members of the family slowly reveal the memories and stories etched beneath, reflecting on the role of the grandparents' house in shaping childhood memories and nurturing a deeper understanding of the importance of family, tradition, and culture in Qatari society.
