For centuries the people of the Arab peninsula used the stars to navigate their journeys and inform them of the natural and seasonal cycles. S'hail is the second brightest star in the constellation that was significant to the people of Qatar and to the larger Arabian peninsula as it signified the end of the summer season and the approaching of the cooler months of the year. This project seeks to highlight star gazing and its historical role in connecting people  with cycles of nature and traditional ways of being and knowing. Inspired by traditional islamic sacred geometry and kufic calligraphy I produce a series of  experimental blocks that fuse together arabic poetry and intricate pixel patterns. The blocks are used to print on fabric creating endless combinations and configurations that create tapestries of pattern and poetry.
