This project focuses on the cultural and societal pressures that have turned traditional weddings into extravagances that weigh heavily on families, creating financial and emotional stress. Women, in particular, are expected to conform to traditional gender roles and adhere to societal expectations of morality and decency. The thesis aims to show that the celebration of love should prioritize the bride's happiness and autonomy, rather than succumbing to societal pressures. By bringing attention to the dark side, it highlights the need to redefine tradition in South Asian weddings and proposes a shift towards meaningful, joyful celebrations while prioritizing emotional and financial well-being.
